Exam Bars Potential Lawyers from Practice

LA Times' Column One yesterday was about the difficulty of passing the California bar exam -- less than half of exam-takers fail, including now-well-known scholars, trial lawyers and politicians.

Harvard missing leader, in deep doo-doo

Boston Globe had a good story that chronicles the events that led up to Harvard University President Summers' resignation.

Olympics

I've been completely addicted to the Olympics, and I have to say, the competition is great and all, but the best part is the all the medal ceremonies. Listening to all those national anthems, watching all those flags go up and seeing all those athletes choke up makes me really happy for them, too! :*)

slow death

In the past 24 hours, my computer has shut down without cause three times. No warning. Just (beeeew) and then nothing. I'm pretty sure the reason is overheating, which I thought I solved pretty well, but apparently not. I'm going to see if I can find a cooling pad because this cannot keep up. I have to use my computer for my law exam next Tuesday. Definitely not funny nor amusing. It has also started making weird whirling and squeaking noises. Also not good signs. It' a good thing I recently acquired an external hard drive. I've lost important stuff waaaay too many times because of Compaq's stupidity.

I am reading "Evelina" for class on Valentine's Day. how appropriate.

midterming sucks

and I haven't even had that many yet.

I'm addicted to the Winter Olympics, which started yesterday, but I didn't get to watch the opening ceremonies.

Also reading a lot of non-required stuff, which bodes so good for the class-assigned books, which will definitely be a good thing later in the semester.

Next week is the grad fair, so the reality of being a graduating senior is kicking in FAST -- not that the lack of a job is not scaring the willies outta me, anyway. :/

fun with the Tube!

The Guardian did a tribute to musical artists by replacing Tube stations with 20th century singers and groups (pdf). It's kinda like what Simon Patterson did with his The Great Bear, which I first saw at the Tate Britain and fell in love with and subsequently bought online.

I miss the Tube. :*(

so that's why I'm poor

Well, there you go. Both London and Paris are ranked in the top 10 list of the world's priciest cities. So this is why my credit card hates me.

I just finished printing out my USC Rossier application and am going to hand it in (yes!) tomorrow (today). Now, all I have left is Boston University and financial aid because I am a poor college student who just wants to get ahead but can't do it (partially) because of the above link.

Anyway. I haven't slept in a long time and probably won't sleep for awhile, seeing as how I still have to read about the life of Samuel Johnson, an apparently terrible writer who led a fascinating life. Yay for massive amounts of reading in British history!

So I'm going to go do that. Cheers, y'all.
